Mumbaikars get a sustainable solution for plastic recycling , facility to refill hand wash from empty plastic bottles available
Mumbai , July 8 , 2025 : Waste generated due to excessive use of plastic has become a major challenge facing the country. According to the Mumbai Municipal Corporation's Environmental Status Report 2022-23 , out of the 6,300 tonnes of waste collected every day in Mumbai, 3.2 percent was plastic waste. Considering this percentage, it can be imagined that 200 tonnes of plastic waste is collected every day in Mumbai . As much as 73,000 tonnes of plastic waste is collected every year. Of the waste collected last year, only 12,400 tonnes of waste was recycled. The remaining 60,600 tonnes of waste is still lying around. This waste is carried away by water and enters rivers and streams. Plastic stuck in the drains clogs the drains. If people reduce their use of plastic, this problem will be solved. For this, they should be encouraged to choose a sustainable lifestyle.
