PM Mitra Mega Textile Park is a Much-Needed Boost for Textile Industry

India, March 28, 2023: Recently the Government of India announced PM Mitra Mega Textile Parks across seven states in India. With the establishment of these parks, the government seeks to streamline the textile value chain into one ecosystem. Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra are the states where the mega-parks, announced under the ₹4,445-crore PM Mega Integrated Textile Regions and Apparel (PM MITRA) scheme, are to come up. This will propel Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Make in India’ and ‘Make for the World.’

The textile industry stalwarts have welcomed this announcement and are looking forward to future prospects. Mr Vinay Thadani, CEO, Vishal Fabrics Ltd said, “This announcement could very well be the game changer for the textile industry. Based on the Gati Shakti Mission, Gujarat has been chosen for one of the states for PM Mitra Mega Textile Park. Gujarat has unique strengths with respect to the textile industry, wherein textile industry has been a part of Gujarat’s heritage. We are the largest cotton-producing state as well as a synthetic textile hub. With the support of central and state governments, the textile industry in Gujarat is sure to grow leaps and boundS. These textile parks will provide an excellent opportunity to have an integrated textile value chain thus attracting foreign investments.”

PM Mitra mega textile parks will boost the textile sector in line with 5F- Farm to Fibre to Factory to Fashion to Foreign. Under the first phase of the PM MITRA scheme, these large textile parks will spread across at least 1,000 acres. These textile parks will provide state-of-the-art infrastructure for the textile industry. These textile parks will create an integrated textile value chain wherein spinning, weaving, processing/dyeing, and printing to garment manufacturing at a single location thus reducing logistics costs.  Each of these textile parks are expected to put their respective states on a global map. It is also expected that these 7 textile parks will generate about 20 lakh jobs.
