Surya Hospitals has taken this initiative to raise awareness among children about the dangers of gadget use and to educate them about the issues associated with it. This is one of its largest suburban children's cyclothons, with over  more than 150 participants. We were thrilled to see the kids' enthusiasm during the Cyclothon event."

Talking to participant Mast. Yuvan Shah said, "It was fun to be a part of this CYCLOTHON in Mumbai. Cycling is a good exercise, and it will keep me fit as compared to spending with gadgets. I’m grateful to Surya Hospitals to give us this opportunity on the Children’s Day and explain us the health benefits of cycling.  Today I pledge that I will ride a cycle every day and spend minimum time with screen."

The major 3 health risk associated with gadgets use are:

Less Focus on Studies: On the use of gadgets, the greater the chances of them getting addicted. Parents across the Globe are worried about their children playing video games, watching TV, spending time with mobile phones, etc. Due to this addiction, kids find it difficult to concentrate on their studies. Additionally, increasing screen time lowers the risk of a child having a shorter overall attention span, making it difficult for him or her to focus on studies.

Strain on the Eyes: During the pandemic, we have seen an increase in cases of eye related issues due to the sudden increase in screen time. Overuse of gadgets has serious consequences like multiple eye infections, myopia, dry eyes, etc. It can also affect the overall vision. The blue light emitted by display screens blocks the release of melatonin, an important sleep-inducing hormone, which leads to sleep impairment in children.

Delay in the physical development of a child: Kids must be playing on the ground instead of being glued to a TV, mobile phone, or video game all the time. Lack of physical activities leads to serious health issues like obesity, psychological issues, which trigger neck and back pain, which is alarming, considering the amount of time children spend on gadgets.

Dr Bhavan D., Facility Director, Surya Hospitals, Mumbai added , “ We at Surya have a legacy of world class paediatric care by providing quality healthcare services across Mumbai, Pune and Jaipur.  We believe that every child is precious and deserve the best care and we made this possible because of our passionate team of Doctors, Nurses and Support staff.
