Modi government has failed miserably to keep our borders safe: Balasaheb Thorat
Government must issue clarification on the controversial statement made by PM: Prithviraj Chavan
Huge response to the state wide agitation called by the Congress against the Modi government.

Mumbai, June 26, 2020
Even as China continues with violations at the LAC, the Modi government has failed miserably to respond to them and has majorly surrendered in front of China. And to demand an answer from the Modi government regarding their failure to keep our borders safe, the Congress launched a state-wide agitation today. Through this agitation, we sought answers to key issues and also paid tribute to the 20 martyred soldiers. From everything that is happening on the border, our foreign policy seems to be wrong. Until today, we had managed to keep China in check, but today the situation is not the same. The BJP government is failing to protect the borders, said Balasaheb Thorat, the state congress president and revenue minister.
This morning, Balasaheb Thorat along with his cabinet and senior party colleagues staged a peaceful agitation at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi near Mantralaya in Mumbai. As part of the state-wide agitation, 'Shahidon Ko Salaam' day was observed. Along with Thorat, Mumbai Congress President Eknath Gaikwad, Women and Child Welfare Minister Yashomati Thakur, School Education Minister Varshatai Gaikwad, Mumbai Guardian Minister Aslam Shaikh, MLA Bhai Jagtap, MLA Amin Patel, Zeeshan Siddiqui, Charanjit Singh Sapra, Madhu Chavan Maharashtra Pradesh Congress General Secretary Sachin Sawant were present. Along with the state-wide agitation, an online campaign #SpeakUpForOurJawans was also launched.
In the afternoon, Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat and former Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan addressed a press conference. At this time, Chavan cornered the Modi government over the Chinese incursion. Chavan said that the China's incursion into Ladakh is a matter of deep concern.Any decision taken by the government in view of the safety of the country will be supported by the Congress. But Prime Minister Modi's statement that China has not infiltrated on the Indian soil has proved to be beneficial to China and has also a major impact at the international level. China has taken full benefit of Modi's statement and has been telling the world that it didn't enter the Indian territory. This statement of the Prime Minister is not acceptable to the Congress. The Prime Minister's Office tried to justify it, but that was not enough. The government should come out with a clarification on the statement made by the the Prime Minister. Chavan also said that it is expected that the PM while speaking on such a big and serious issue should be more responsible, but that hasn't happened. It is the duty of the opposition to ask questions to the government and to give reply to those questions is a constitutional duty of the government.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping have met 19 times in six years, but looks like those meetings have not benefited India at all. At this time, Chavan bombarded the Modi government with questions. How many times did China invade India in April, May 2020? Why did the Prime Minister make such a controversial statement in the all-party meeting? Did the PM's statement weaken India's role in the negotiations? What measures have been taken by the Government of India to bring the situation on the border back to normal? Chavan said that Modi government should answer these questions.
China has not stopped its atrocities in the border areas. It has become clear from the satellite images and China has not retreated from the Galwan area. Instead, there are Chinese military outposts in the area, and military vehicles are moving around. About 10,000 troops are stationed in the area, including large stocks of ammunition. Construction is also underway in the Galwan basin by China, said Prithviraj Chavan.
