Honoured to be a part of Chennai Singams, says Delhi fast bowler Anurag Sarshar
ISPL is like a God-sent blessing - Sarshar
Tennis ball cricket helped fuel Anurag Sarshar’s passion for the game after an ankle injury ended the left-arm quick’s hopes of a cricket ball career when he was just 16.
The 23-year-old bowler from Delhi was bought for INR 9.6 lakh by Chennai Singams for ongoing season 2 of the Indian Street Premier League (ISPL) which is running for 21 days started from January 26 at the Dadoji Konddev Stadium in Thane.
Chennai Singams, semi-finalists last year, kickstarted their campaign with a match against Sarshar’s former team Falcon Risers Hyderabad on January 27.
“I touched 130+ kmph at 16, I had natural pace, before the ankle injury,” said Sarshar, the second of three children.
He took up tennis ball cricket to stay close to the game he loves and soon made a name for himself in the local circuit, playing in leading tennis ball tournaments in and around Delhi.
His talent saw him get picked to participate in several other popular tournaments featuring players from across the country.
Little did he know then that he would one day be a much-sought-after player in the ISPL and would rise from the street (gully) to the stadium.
Sarshar played in all of Falcon Risers Hyderabad’s matches in the inaugural season, impressing with his speed and variations.
“My favourite memory is my first wicket, with just the second delivery on my ISPL debut against Bangalore Strikers,” he reminisced.
Sarshar is thrilled to be turning out for the Lions. “I watched the Singams closely last season, it is a professional unit with an excellent management. I am honoured to be a part of this franchise,” he said.
“The ISPL is like a God-sent blessing for tennis ball cricket and a boost for players, gives hope that there is a future and a career in this sport,” he concluded.
