Shefali Shah opens up about parenting, says ‘It's crucial that we guide our teens to make thoughtful decisions while navigating the online world’ at an event organised by Snapchat
Snapchat, in collaboration with Kidsstoppress, organized an event named Snap SMART, with a focus on teenage safety and digital well-being. This event took place in Mumbai on September 7th and was attended by parent-bloggers of teenagers aged 13-17. The event featured a discussion with celebrity mom Shefali Shah on the importance of open conversations with teenage kids regarding digital media. The panel was moderated by Mansi Zaveri, Founder ancd CEO of Kidsstoppress, and included teenage content creator and Snap Star Nitanshi Goel, along with Uthara Ganesh, Head of Public Policy, South Asia, Snap Inc.
Speaking about teens’ safety online, Shefali Shah shared, “As a mother and an actor, I understand the power and impact of our digital choices. It's crucial that we guide our teens to make thoughtful decisions while navigating the online world. Having open conversations with our teens about tools available to help keep them safe is critical.”
During the panel discussion around the digital safety and well-being for teens, Shefali Shah shared, "There is no instruction manual that comes with parenting. Everyone chooses their own path and what works for you and your child. This is not an advice, I am still learning as a parent. And, I think you keep learning till they are 30 or something. So, it never really ends. It starts with teething and then testosterone and then it just keeps going on. And, finally, at some point in time, they are going to be older, and we still worry. I think I am learning on the way, I am growing with them.”
The event hosted by Snapchat provided valuable insights into the challenges and joys of parenting teenagers, fostering a deeper understanding of the evolving parent-child relationship in the digital age. The event emphasised the significance of open and honest conversations between parents and teenagers, paving the way for healthier relationships and safer digital experiences.
